XXL recognizes Rafi Kam, others · by Rafi Kam
In the most recent issue of XXL there’s a story on how the Internet has changed hip-hop. Like how every rapper in 2006 needed to make a MySpace reference. That kind of thing.
The article ran with a sidebar on ten hip-hop blogs “worth bookmarking” and we’re in there which is pretty cool.
What’s not cool is XXL trying to split up the Oh Word team with this provocative wording…
Using humor and biting skepticism, Rafi Kam and others keep hip-hop in check with a close eye on the media and the internet community itself.
Rafi Kam and others? XXL is trying to ruin the harmonious commune we have here on some ego shit. Come now, there’s no “I” in OhWord.com
A quick salute to the “others”:
agent b puts the “ill” in illustrator. Also he’s “straighter” than most art school grads.
R.H.S. was surprised to learn that his black ass was writing the majority of the features and reviews for a white hip-hop blog. How fucking typical. It does provide some small consolation that Tara Henley says we’re down.
Sacha Orenstein has the street cred to tell us that Timbaland’s status ain’t hood.
David Donald is like Oh Word’s unseen hand on grammar and fact checking duties. Heh, duties.
Nikhil Yerawadekar has a last name H.P. Lovecraft could have made good use of. He’s too busy living the fast life of a jazz guitarist to come around much anymore.
Mike Ichioka is our token bay area guy and our token American living abroad guy. He’s also too busy living abroad and being a bay area guy to come around much anymore. But we totally support Ghost-riding the Fiat.
And a host of others have contributed pieces. In fact if you’re reading this there are better than even odds that you once did a post or article for us. Thanks for that homey.
