“I like my Sugar with coffee and C.R.E.A.M.”
Last week, blogger/producer Paul “Gooch” Cantor put out this blend of Def Leppard’s “Pour Some Sugar on Me” with the verses from Wu-Tang Clan’s “C.R.E.A.M.”
I think we’re supposed to be past the day of cleverly titled mashups or something but the blend works well in my opinion. Even though I was in that 7th grade demographic for “Pour Some Sugar on Me” back when it was a hit, we all knew the lyrics were beyond stupid. So, here it is, finally re-purposed as an arena-size loop for Rae and Deck to deliver their grimy autobiographies over.
Wu-Tang + Def Leppard= “Cream and Sugar” (remixed by DJ George Bailey and Gooch)
Since it got a good response on Twitter, Paul went back to the lab and made another rock-rap hybrid. This time featuring a bunch of Queens legends: Kool G Rap featuring Nas “Fast Life” over the Ramones “I Wanna Be Sedated”.
Kool G Rap and Nas + The Ramones= “The Sedated Fast Life” (prod by DJ Bailey and Gooch.
Paul says in his post of the track:
From a conceptual standpoint, I also dig the fact that these songs are like polar opposites. Here’s G Rap and Nas rhyming about the fast life, attaining these great things, high finance and luxury goods. Basically, being a success. The American Dream realized. And the Ramones are just like, “hey, that’s great, but get me out of here.” Like screw the American Dream, life couldn’t be any less interesting than it is with all that crap. I thought that was kinda cool.
I see in the way Paul is approaching this, something similar to Alexander Richter’s photos or even our whenderful sites, an approach that is perfectly suited to the internet. Creating things in a deliberate serial format so that each piece can stand on its own as an accomplishment but also be a building block towards a grander overall product.

Wow, these are kind of crazy, but they work well.
Cream and Sugar remix is boo boo.
I love hip hop. I dig some heavy metal (Metallica) and some rock, but Wu-Tang and Def Leppard should never cross paths again.
I highly respect ohword, but I can’t believe you wasted time giving shine to this.
Nobody beats the Kam. Has anyone flipped the bassline from Black Flag’s “Six Pack” yet?
“Since it got a good response on Twitter” being the primary reason for one’s motivation to proceed with a music project is highly comical to me. Also, watchyostep, Wiz.
Wiz, to each his own. I was skeptical of the concept but he made it work for me.
And whose time did I waste? We got nothing but time here.
Guys, these are mash ups. This kinda stuff was popular in 2002. Don’t dress it up as some sort of conceptual art.
jon,
