We live in a time where people say things like “you have to respect my hustle”. Fuck your hustle, no one cares about your hustle. Be better or go away. When rap music was good nobody ever talked about the size of their hustle. It seems like you might be overcompensating for something.
I say the new hot insult is “Your hustle is showing” the way Charles Barkley used to say “never let ‘em see you sweat”. If we can all see your hustle, you’ve already fucked up, like a magician who can’t pull off a trick.
Your hustle is showing when you’re selfish. You type the same self-promoting message over and over on Twitter.
Your hustle is showing when your hard work is being wasted. You have “blog buzz” but no one knows your music because it isn’t any good.
Your hustle is showing when you worry too much about branding. You say your name all over every verse and close every show with your myspace url. If you’re a blogger you watermark photos and videos.
Your hustle is showing when you’re dishonest. You promote your clients without disclosing that’s what they are. You ask the world to help you blow up without offering them anything real in return. Poof, you lost our trust.
Your hustle must have been showing.

This is dope. I think it’ll be nice to say that to some one and have it be thought of as a compliment as in…”Yo, your hustle is showing.” ….”You know it, son!! WHUTWHUUUUUUT!”
True, true . . .
Hi! I’m researching the influence of music blogs for my dissertation. If you are reading this blog I would really appreciate it if you could fill in this very short questionnaire.

Exactly! Well said. I especially love “no one cares about your hustle. Be better or go away.” No that should be the work ethic for 2010.
I’m glad to see I’m not alone in my thoughts on this matter.
Thank you, I couldn’t have said it any better. REAL talk!!
