Brand new, first single off Rakim’s long-awaited Seventh Seal
Rakim’s been teasing this joint at live shows for years. We caught it at Rock the Bells 2007, during the Kid Capri spun intro to Ra’s set and then incorporated it into the intro of our video.
The chilling sample comes from “Holy Are You” by the Electric Prunes, a song written and produced by David Axelrod. It used to be on YouTube but it looks like the copyright police came for it.
You can catch a little but of dude from the Verve singing it in this live Axelrod performance:

If I could sneak headphones in at work, this would be getting bumped right now.
An artist is only as good as his audience. You can judge the quality of his work by the number of people standing in the rain, attending the concert.
The Track is Hot !!!
It Gets five mics !!!
Rakim is great! Although it is on the “true” labors of David Axelrod’s hard, mother fxxking creation of “Holy Are You” and Axelrod’s broken back!!!
When ANY rapper/MC/Hip-Hpping cxxksucker or D.J. Beat
stealing “Dilettante” needs a smash hit what IS THE COMMON denominator? The Maestro aka David Axelrod.
Where would Dre be without “Next Episode’? The song is “The Edge” written by …yep…. David Axelrod. Lil Wayne…”Dr. Carter” entire song sampled at least these 2
did it right they licensed the song/sample. What that means is you do not pay until a lawyer makes you; as it took over a year for David Axelrod to collect 1 dime from Lil Wayne. As far as the “so called” smart one’s who talk so big, and street hip-hop tough, they walk from the mic
to the limo, to the jet to the yacht…running but they gonna get caught! That’s all of you, Wu Tang, Ghostface, Common, Cypress, Nas, Snoop, Cut Chemist , Pete Rock , MADLIP, and the rest keep running as I will make sure your gonna get caught!!!! You can run, spit your diss, play your beats, but in the end I will collect as they say “You can run but you cannot hide”. Gonna getcha all baby!
Do the right thing and make amends it is not to late…although David Axelrod is only 78 this man would fxxk you all up if he saw you…. ’cause he lived his life in the streets, and he is one mean , angry , hurt by your sheer audacity of out right theft; as for “all” who say “Where would David Axelrod be without all the samples, blah, blah “, probably where he is now, in a one room apt., where he came from…the slums!
Don’t use the music… steal someone Else’s!
Bring it on mouths!

Dana speaks the truth! It’s sad how creativity has left the music world these days and been replaced by hip hop/rap “artsits” sampling/stealing other peoples’ work – in particular the work of one of the greatest composers and arrangers of all time in the maestro David Axelrod. The artists who Dana listed are only a tiny fraction of those who have stolen the maestro’s work, his hard work that his blood, sweat, and tears went into creating. hopefully one of these days these rappers will learn to give credit where credit is due. and every time someone steals another axelrod work they try to get away with having a fresh, original sound, but in fact THAT SOUND BELONGS TO THE GODFATHER OF HIP-HOP, the one and only DAVID AXELROD!
TO ALL OF RAKIM’S FANS, RAKIM, AND
HIS MANAGEMENT,
I would like to apologize for any negative remarks (above)
as it has come to my attention that Rakim
and his management have gone “over” and
beyond what is and was necessary for using
David Axelrod’s “Holy Are You”!
It is unfortunate that even for me, the business side
stepped in front of the real issue…
music!
God Bless Rakim.
