Sesame Street turns 40 today

November 10, 2009

The Internets Celebrities owe a certain debt to Sesame Street which turns 40 today. After all, they were first to try the formula we would adopt: plop larger than life muppets and a multi-racial cast in an urban setting to delight and educate young children.

My parents ushered me along to Electric Company and 3-2-1 Contact way too soon so I wasn’t really as up on Sesame Street as the other kids on the schoolyard. I remember being a little jealous of some friends of mine that had younger siblings because they could still watch the show without any stigma. Luckily, it became age-appropriate for me again when I became a college-attending stoner. And then once again when I myself became a parent.

I was looking up videos on YouTube with my daughter just the other days when we came across this classic. Kermit and the cutest little cut-up ever saying the A-B-C’s. I wonder where this girl is now.

Here’s a great collection of Sesame Street clips to reminisce on.
