The Welfare Poets – Warn Them (video)

September 9, 2009

The Welfare Poets are a live Hip-Hop band from East Harlem. In the song “Warn Them”, an mc named Rayzer Sharp has a short list of grievances he’d like to speak about. Ok, it’s not really that short.

The song is probably put to its best use scoring this dope gritty-looking video, glimpsing a few loosely intertwined lives in the hood. And several times the lyrics imagine us up to a bird’s eye view, asking why things are the way they are and finally what’s the impact of creating an even more dire hood on the other side of the world.

Heady stuff to be sure. But who said prophesy is easy to listen to?

Warn Them is one of the most haunting, chilling, and muthafucking real expressions of how many of our people, our community, our hoods are feeling. Viva the Welfare Poets!

Deep verse dropped with a really natural, conscious flow. A lot of emotion in this. Good stuff!

Thats really peace.
This is what hip hop can be, should be, could be and is.
Thanks for exposing me to the Welfare Poets.
